Several Border Checkpoints in Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Czechia Shut to Help Contain Spread of Foot-and-Mouth Disease

To help contain the spread of the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak, several border crossing points in Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, and the Czech Republic have been closed until May 7, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

The following border checkpoints will remain closed until midnight on May 7:

Slovakia/ Hungary:

Cunovo - Rajka; Radvannad Dunajom - Neszmely; Chlaba - Ipolydamasd; Salka - Letkes; Ipeljske Predmostie - Dregelypalank; Vrbovka - Ohrhalom; Trenc - Raros - Rarospuszta; Lenartovce - Banreve; Dlha Ves/Domica - Aggtelek; Kechnec - Abaujvar; Trstene pri Hornade - Keked; Skaros - Hollohaza; Michalany - Alsoregmec; Streda nad Bodrogom - Karos; Velky Hores - Nagyrozvagy; Velke Trakany - Zemplenagard; 

Slovakia/ Austria:

Zahorska vas - Angern

Slovakia/ Czechia:

Bila-Bumbalka – Makov is closed for the transport of animals, animal products, and animal feed.

Even though no cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been reported in Austria so far, some of the country’s trading partners have already taken precautionary measures. The United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Bosnia and Herzegovina have imposed import bans on Austrian beef, pork products, and raw milk until further notice, the Austrian news agency APA reported.
