After a complaint by four villages, Burgas Governor Plamen Yanev overruled a decision of the municipal council in Sredets for installing photovoltaic systems on 828 hectares of agricultural land, his press centre said on Monday.

The decision was proposed by Sredets Mayor Ivan Zhabov of GERB and it changes the use of arable fields and pastures in the villages of Dyulevo, Orlintsi, Suhodol and Svetlina for electricity generation, power substations, warehouses and electricity storage.

The residents of the four villages disagree with the decision and state that the implementation of the investment plans for the construction of a photovoltaic park on the agricultural areas will lead to the economic and demographic collapse of the area. People are worried that the photovoltaic park will interfere with agriculture, livestock breeding, beekeeping and hunting tourism.

Yanev said that the state is sympathetic to people's concerns and closely monitors the decisions of all municipal councils to ensure they benefit the public.
