Five specialized international food and drink exhibitions opened at the Inter Expo Center in Sofia on Wednesday and will be on view until Saturday, November 15. Meatmania, Dairy Expo, Bulpek (for bakery products and confectionery), Interfood & Drink, and Wine & Spirits provide a platform for presenting high-quality products from Bulgaria and all over the world.
Agriculture and Food Minister Georgi Tahov said in an opening speech that the food industry is a very important sector for the Bulgarian economy, with more than 6,000 companies operating in it, providing employment for over 90,000 people.
Tahov stressed that the food industry holds leading positions in the global economy and that exhibitions like these are particularly valuable, as they show consumers the new standards for high-quality products, mainly Bulgarian but also foreign.
According to the agriculture minister, in order to develop the food industry, there must be stable agricultural production with a secure raw material base. For Bulgaria, as a country with traditions in agricultural production, financial support for farmers is especially important so that they can remain stable, sustainable and competitive, he said.
In this context, the Agriculture and Food Ministry, following the logic and objectives of the Strategic Plan, will open two interventions later in November, one with a budget of EUR 278 million and the other with more than EUR 400 million. Early next year, interventions related to the processing of agricultural products will begin, with a budget of over EUR 300 million, and the year will end with interventions to support small and medium-sized businesses. For the first time, in 2026, support will be provided to encourage farmers to join quality schemes and to promote them, said Minister Tahov.
