Bulgarian Patriarch and Metropolitan of Sofia Daniil led the festive liturgy for Pentecost at the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky in Sofia.
Many faithful attended the service, gathering in the cathedral for the prayerful celebration of the feast.
In his sermon on the occasion, Patriarch Daniil emphasized the spiritual significance of Pentecost as the feast of the Church and called for unity.
At the end of his address, he extended greetings to all in celebration of the holiday.
Pentecost is one of the greatest Christian feasts and is a floating holiday. It commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles on the 50th day after the Resurrection (Easter).
June 8 marks the eighth Sunday after Pascha. On this day, through the grace of the Holy Spirit, the Church was born as a community of believers in Christ. For this reason, Pentecost is also referred to as the birthday of the Church.
