The Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA) will open a national press club in Razgrad. BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and Razgrad Deputy Mayor Dobrin Dobrev signed on Monday a contract for the free provision of the press club premises in a municipally owned building.

The BTA National Press Club in Razgrad is to be officially opened during the 21st edition of the Yogurt Fair and Festival of Folk Traditions and Craft Arts, which will take place in the last week of July. Valchev proposed that BTA should publish a special issue of LIK magazine dedicated to the Yogurt Fair for its 25th anniversary.

At present, BTA has 23 press clubs in regional towns, two in non-regional towns and five outside the country. The BTA Director General pointed out that “it is not right that there is no press club of the national agency in cities like Razgrad - with such historical, economic, cultural and sports importance.”

"By the end of the year, BTA will have national press clubs in Smolyan, Pernik and Montana, and from the non-regional towns, a press club will be opened in Svishtov in June, and we hope to open one in Petrich within this year, thus completing the construction of the agency's national network of media centers," Valchev added.

He noted that the BTA press clubs are a preferred place for communication between media and representatives of business, politics, culture and sports. They organize press conferences, discussions, exhibitions and other events for institutions, organizations and citizens to send messages and publicize news from the region, which reaches the national level through BTA and abroad through the BTA English service.

Deputy Mayor of Razgrad Dobrin Dobrev stated the opening of the BTA Press Club will undoubtedly bring prestige for the city and the district and shows that Razgrad is alive and important, it is on the map and will be “a stage of free speech”. He also expressed his satisfaction with the fruitful cooperation between BTA and Razgrad Municipality, stressing that they regard the national agency as a fruitful partner in the coverage of the municipality's activities and events.
