The Bulgarian-language programme of Australia's Radio SBS received the award of the 13 Centuries of Bulgaria National Endowment Fund for its contribution to the dissemination of Bulgarian culture. The award is presented to a Bulgarian-language media outlet abroad at the annual World Meetings of Bulgarian Media organized by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).

This year's meeting, mottoed "Media and Freedom", is taking place in the town of Kazanlak.

The award was given to programme presenter Filli Ladgman by Adriana Meshkova, Expert on Competition, Awards and Other Projects at the National Endowment Fund.

One of the ideas of this award is to help a little the Bulgarian voice abroad, BTA Director General Kiril Valchev said. This year the decision made with the National Endowment Fund was to give the award to a Bulgarian programme that has existed for 45 years thanks to the help of the host country and without any help from Bulgaria. Valchev added that although the programme no longer exists, local people have been trying to preserve it in every way.

"I'm touched and somewhat humbled by such an honour," Filli Ladgman said. Bulgarians around the world, including in Australia, are like quantum particles - they always vibrate at the same Bulgarian frequency, she said.

"We are born and die alone, but when we have dedicated our time to something meaningful between those two events in our lives, it's all worthwhile," Ladgman said. She added that the Bulgarian voice will again be heard on the media in Australia.

Instituted in 2013, the award recognizes the efforts of Bulgarian journalists working abroad to preserve and promote the Bulgarian culture and spirit.

BTA organizes the 18th World Meeting of the Bulgarian Media in Kazanlak from June 1 to June 4, 2023, with the assistance of the Municipality of Kazanlak, the 13 Centuries Bulgaria National Endowment Fund, Aurubis Bulgaria, Doverie Pension Assurance Company, Post Bank, A1 and Nestle Bulgaria AD.
