In his greeting for the first day of the school year, September 15, Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev said that this day has always been one of the brightest and most beloved holidays for the entire society. “School gives us not only knowledge, but much more. It teaches us to be active and responsible, people with values who can think critically and defend their positions,” he said.
“Today, we all celebrate knowledge together, pay tribute to teachers, and enjoy the smiles of children,” Minister Valchev added in his address.
After welcoming students, he also addressed the teachers, telling them that every flower they receive on this day is a small symbol of society's respect for their work and self-sacrifice.
Minister Valchev also congratulated parents in his greeting. "If we do not teach our children to respect their teachers, they will not respect any authority, not even their parents. One of the best ways to support our children's education is to show them respect for their teachers. Trust them. Only then will we achieve truly great success," he said.
"I also congratulate the teams at all kindergartens and nurseries. You are taking care of our future, because the ‘first seven’ are the ones who lay the foundation for all educational success, from school to university. Dear principals, teachers, pedagogical and non-pedagogical specialists, dear parents and students, stay healthy and may this school year bring much new success! Good luck," the Minister of Education concluded his greeting.
Minister Valchev will open the new school year today in two schools, the 119th Secondary School in the capital's Iztok neighborhood, and the 200th Primary School in the village of Lozen.
Later in the day, Minister Valchev will participate in a working meeting at the Naiden Gerov Secondary School in the Stolipinovo neighborhood of Plovdiv, where he will talk with the teams working at the school on the Mechanism for the Inclusion of Children in the Education System.
President Rumen Radev will participate in the ceremonial opening of the school year at the First English Language High School and 112th Primary School in Sofia, the press office of the head of State said.
Vice President Iliana Yotova will open the new school year at Dr. Petar Beron Secondary School in Kostinbrod. Yotova is a former student of the school.
Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov will participate in the opening of the new school year at the 83rd Primary School in Pancharevo, the government press service said.
