The successful operations of the Sofia Directorate of the Interior Ministry against the possession and distribution of narcotic substances in Sofia continue, the Ministry of Interior said Saturday. In less than a week, 2.5 kg of fentanyl, 1,025 pellets of the same drug, over 123 grams of cocaine, about 300 grams of marijuana, and various amounts of cash were found and seized. Eight people were arrested during the police operation, said the Ministry of Interior.
Five people were detained during a special operation against drug trafficking and approximately 2 kg of fentanyl, marijuana, and crystals were found and seized, along with the sum of BGN 25,000. The operation was planned in response to reports that drug users were gathering in Petar and Pavel Park in the Ilinden neighborhood and harassing people living in the area.
A total of 1,025 pellets of fentanyl and over 250 grams of powdered fentanyl, nearly 20 grams of cocaine, and approximately BGN 14,000 were seized by police officers during another successful operation against drug trafficking in Sofia. A 58-year-old dealer known to the police was arrested. A pre-trial investigation is underway.
During another police operation, officers stopped a car driven by a 25-year-old man known to the police for inspection. A drug test showed that the driver had cocaine in his system. During subsequent searches of the car and the man's home, over 103 grams of cocaine were seized.
Officers also seized about 300 grams of marijuana on Friday. A Dutch citizen who was distributing drugs in the capital was arrested.
“We find fentanyl every day, which is quite worrying,” commented Lyubomir Nikolov, Head of Sofia's Interior Ministry Regional Directorate, a few days ago. He was adamant that the fight against drug trafficking will continue.
