Parliament on Friday is set to vote on a motion of no confidence against the government of Rosen Zhelyazkov, over it failure in the environmental and water management sector. The vote is the first item on the parliamentary agenda.

The no-confidence motion was submitted by the parliamentary group of Velichie, with support from MPs representing MECh and Vazrazhdane.

Debate on the motion took place on Wednesday and lasted nearly four hours. During the discussion, MPs from the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms declared their support for the motion. Support was also expressed by Continue the Change (CC), which has 17 MPs within its joint parliamentary group with Democratic Bulgaria.

On Thursday, CC leader Assen Vassilev told media at the National Assembly that from now on, the party will support no-confidence motions that "do not distance Bulgaria from Europe." He reiterated the party’s earlier position to abstain from voting on no-confidence motions until July 8, when the final decision was made for Bulgaria to join the Eurozone as of January 1, 2026.

For the no-confidence motion to pass, it must receive the support of at least 121 members of parliament. With the declared backing from the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms and Continue the Change, the initiators of the motion can currently count on 86 votes—assuming full attendance.
