site.btaRectors of Higher Education Institutions Open Exhibition in Burgas
An exhibition entitled "One Unknown Collection. Works from the Residence of Valko Chervenkov" opened at the Sea Casino Cultural Centre in Burgas on Thursday.
Exhibition curator Milena Balcheva-Bozhkova commented that it is becoming a wonderful tradition for the museum collection of the National Academy of Arts to visit Burgas. She noted that the exhibition features 49 works by Bulgarian and foreign artists from the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries, which remained closed for a long time in the residence of Valko Chervenkov, prime Mminister of Bulgaria from 1950 to 1956. She noted that many famous Bulgarian artists have undeservedly been forgotten and that the exhibition is helping rediscover them.
The opening was attended by Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov, National Academy of Arts Rector Prof. Georgi Yankov, Burgas State University Rector Prof. Hristo Bozov, Burgas Free University Rector Prof. Milen Baltov, Sofia University Rector Prof. Georgi Valchev, National Academy of Music Rector Prof. Sava Dimitrov, and National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts Rector Prof. Miroslav Dachev.
Nikolov thanked the rectors for having responded to Prof. Yankov's invitation to open the exhibition together. "Each one of these university rectors is connected to the academic past, present, but most of all to the academic future of the city of Burgas," he said.
"Representatives of about one sixth of the state higher education institutions are (gathered) here, which is, I dare say, the best one sixth among them," Yankov emphasized. He said that he and Mayor Dimitar Nikolov had come a very long way, and wished his colleagues to do the same in the seaside city. Yankov thanked Dundee Precious Metals Chelopech, who provided the works, so that everyone could enjoy them in their full glory.
The exhibition can be seen until August 16.
