The vote will not pass because there are no grounds for it, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov told reporters in Rome on Thursday regarding the fourth no-confidence motion against his cabinet for failure in the environment and water sector, which MPs debated Wednesday and are set to vote on.

“This is yet another one of those sectoral votes which, first, have no subject matter because the issue itself does not concern the work of this cabinet, and it is making efforts to resolve these inherited problems, so this vote is, first, without subject matter, and second, it is a political vote by the Velichie party. They supported the motion of Vazrazhdane, and now they have received support to gather the necessary number of votes to bring this no-confidence motion forward. A fifth and sixth will follow,” Zhelyazkov said.

He added that Continue the Change’s (CC) intention to support the motion without rhyme or reason is no surprise, but is sad news nevertheless.

“Personally, I would not be able to explain to CC voters why CC supports a motion by the Vazrazhdane and Velichie parties. Does this mean that they have synchronized actions for the future, seeking some kind of future coalitions, future majorities,” Zhelyazkov commented.

“On the other hand, I am curious how Vazrazhdane, Velichie and MECh would accept this support from CC. In general, this convergence seems somewhat strange to me, but in politics, all kinds of combinations of incompatible tastes are possible,” the Prime Minister said.

Earlier on Thursday, CC leader Assen Vassilev stated in Parliament that from now on, the party would support votes of no confidence that do not distance Bulgaria from Europe, in response to a question about what their tactics would be when voting on the fourth vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov's government for failure in the environment and water sector.
