Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev Monday welcomed Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad bin Sultan Al Muraikhi, who is visiting Sofia to take part in political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries, Georgiev's Ministry said in a press release.

Following a brief bilateral meeting, Georgiev and Al Muraikhi, along with their delegations, officially opened the plenary session of the consultations. The talks focused on strengthening political dialogue and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Discussions continued under the chairmanship of Bulgarian Deputy Foreign Minister Maria Anguelieva. In her address to the Qatari delegation, she expressed confidence that Minister Al Muraikhi’s visit to Bulgaria would give new momentum to cooperation between the two countries.

The sides discussed a wide range of topics on the bilateral agenda and opportunities to enhance cooperation in key sectors such as the economy, energy, defence and security, culture, education, tourism, and transport.

Special emphasis was placed on the upcoming Third Session of the Bulgarian-Qatari Joint Commission for Economic and Technical Cooperation, which was identified as an essential tool for advancing bilateral ties. The Commission is expected to facilitate joint business forums, establish direct connections between Qatari and Bulgarian companies, and help form lasting economic and investment partnerships.

The Bulgarian side also spoke of the interaction between the State Cultural Institute and Qatari partners, and described the collaboration between the diplomatic institutes of both countries as promising.
