On Thursday, Parliament adopted 11 out of 18 amendment bills to the Penal Code at first reading. The amendments are related to penalties for traffic violations due to alcohol and drug use, and for crimes against animals.
Four of the adopted bills were proposed by the Council of Ministers. The rest were initiated by MPs from different parliamentary groups.
During the debate in Parliament, MPs expressed an opinion that instead of constant amendments, an entirely new Penal Code should be drafted.
Justice Minister Georgi Georgiev was in the plenary chamber during the debate.
