site.btaPM Zhelyazkov Expects Unanimous Support from European Council for Bulgaria's Eurozone Accession

Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov expressed his expectation that Bulgaria will receive unanimous support from the European Council for its accession to the eurozone later on Thursday. He commented on this issue to Bulgarian journalists before the start of the meeting of European heads of state and government in Brussels.
The Prime Minister said Bulgaria has the necessary support. He explained that the conclusions of the meeting are expected to support the assessments of the European Commission and the European Central Bank reports on Bulgaria’s readiness to introduce the single currency. The necessary recommendation will be made to the Council of the EU to approve the legislative acts, the Prime Minister added.
On July 8, the European Parliament is expected to vote on its report on Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone, and later that day, the Council of the EU is expected to adopt the final decisions on the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria on January 1, 2026.
