site.btaSofia Municipal Council Adopts Sofia's 2025 Budget

The Sofia Municipal Council (SOC) adopted the Municipality's 2025 budget and the economic framework for urban transport on Thursday.

The budget was adopted with 41 votes "for", four votes "against", and ten abstentions.

Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev had returned his own budget report, adopted at the end of May, for review by the SOC due to illegality and inexpediency. The mayor motivated this by the fact that the municipal councillors had voted for an unbalanced budget where revenues exceed expenses by over BGN 3.5 million.

With the adoption of the economic framework, the increase in salaries of employees in surface urban transport, which was the cause of a series of protests in May, is also about to become a fact. Public transport unions protested in front of the Sofia Municipality building on Thursday to remind the Municipality that they are still waiting for the salary increase.
