Vice President Iliana Iotova will visit Krakow, Poland, on June 24-25, at the invitation of the Jagiellonian University, one of the oldest universities in Europe, established in 1364, the press secretariat of the head of State said on Tuesday.

Iotova will be a guest at a ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the awarding of a doctoral degree to Prof. Alexander Naumov. The distinguished Slavic scholar, born in Poland, had many years of teaching experience in Italy, the USA, Bulgaria, and Serbia. He is an honorary doctor of Sofia University. His main scientific and research interests are related to Cyril and Methodius studies, Orthodox spiritual culture, and the Old Bulgarian literary tradition. Prof. Naumov has made an exceptional contribution to the development and popularization of Bulgarian science and culture, the press secretariat reported.

Iotova will deliver a lecture on history, culture and education to students of philology, including Bulgarian studies, historical, philosophical, international and political majors. Among the highlights of the lecture will be the significant role of Bulgaria in the salvation of the Cyril and Methodius cause and the spread of writing, spirituality and culture throughout the Slavic world, as well as memorable anniversaries, including 1170 years of the Glagolitic script and 1160 years of the baptism of the Bulgarian people. The Vice President will also outline the prospects for the development of Bulgarian studies in Poland, which has long-standing traditions and is developing in several Polish universities.

Iotova will also meet with representatives of the Bulgarian community, with the leadership of the Krakow branch of the Dora Gabe Bulgarian Sunday School and with the Honorary Consul of Bulgaria Wieslaw Nowak.
