site.btaCC-DB’s Bozhanov: Bulgaria's Next President Must Have a Clear Pro-Western and Pro-European Orientation

Co-chair of Yes, Bulgaria and Member of Parliament from the CC-DB group Bozhidar Bozhanov told Nova News that Democratic Bulgaria will work to nominate a presidential candidate with a clearly pro-Western stance. “We have set ourselves the goal of attracting as many free people as possible who believe in right-wing ideas and to propose a presidential candidate who will be a true unifier of the nation,” Bozhanov said. He pointed out that the incumbent Head of State, Rumen Radev, represents a problem with his positions and actions, including his statements on the euro.

He emphasized that Democratic Bulgaria supports membership in the eurozone and criticizes not the direction, but specific governance decisions that risk leading to public discontent. One example is the issue of prices, on which the coalition has already proposed specific measures. “We have proposed a bill that requires large retail chains to publish daily prices for goods in the small consumer basket - a measure that has been successfully implemented in Croatia. This will stimulate competition and provide more transparency for consumers,” Bozhanov explained.

On the subject of the election of the chair of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Bozhanov stressed that the rules have been agreed with the European Commission and are key to receiving the second payment under the Recovery and Resilience Plan. “[MRF-NB leader] Peevski and [GERB leader] Borissov want to install their own man, whom they can call on the phone, but this contradicts the basic idea of an independent anti-corruption institution,” he said.
