Education Minister Krasimir Valchev participated in a city-wide ritual of homage to national hero Hristo Botev and those who died for the national liberation of Bulgaria in Stara Zagora on Monday. 

“Botev is at the heart of the national narrative that we pass on to our children, which is also about the struggle for national liberation, which is also the spirituality that has preserved us through the centuries,” the Minister said.

"As Minister of Education, I must note that Botev was also a teacher. Historians say that he was born in one of the rooms of the monastery school in Kalofer, and then he was also a teacher in Zadunaevka, but in fact Botev became a teacher to all of us, a teacher to our children. We convey his messages of freedom, of self-sacrifice, of justice, of rejecting tyranny," Valchev added.
