site.btaTurkish Citizen Charged with Smuggling Gold Bars at Kapitan Andreevo Border Checkpoint

A 54 years old Turkish citizen was charged with smuggling gold bars weighting 12.5 kilogrammes with a total value of BGN 1.4 million at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint, the Haskovo District Prosecutor's Office said on Wednesday.

The gold bars were found during an inspection of a cargo van traveling from France to Turkiye through Bulgaria. The passеnger did not declare the export of goods, currency and valuables.

The smuggled gold items were seized and a pre-trial investigation has been initiated into the case.
