In a post on X on Monday, Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev wrote: "It is with deep sorrow that I have learned of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis".

"The world has lost a spiritual leader who dedicated his life to peace, compassion, and the protection of human dignity. I offer my sincerest condolences to the Holy See and all Catholics around the world," Georgiev added.

The Vatican announced Pope Francis’s passing via a video message earlier in the day.
