The removal of Rossen Jeliazkov from the post of speaker of the National Assembly is strange, Vice President Iliana Iotova told journalists. Iotova attended the presentation of a global report of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on the social and emotional skills of 15-year-old students. “Perhaps there were many more cases in the past months during which the head of the Speaker of the National Assembly had to be "taken", but this is ultimately the work of the parties, within the groups,” she said.

“We are in the run-up to elections,” Iotova said in response to a question what is happening at the moment and added that from the very beginning it was clear that each of the changes that were made to the Constitution and the way they were made should have legitimized the National Assembly as a place for an election campaign and this is happening.

According to her, the country needs "a stable majority and a stable cabinet, not again a caretaker cabinet of Mr Glavchev or anyone else." In recent months, this majority has argued that they should make big compromises for the sake of returning parliamentarism and introducing reforms, but "parliamentarism was not returned, especially with the mockery of the Constitution, nor were reforms carried out," Vice President Iotova added.
