Bulgarian Posts is temporarily suspending acceptance of all shipments to the US starting Tuesday, August 26, the state-owned company said. The reason are planned changes by the US administration related to customs clearance of incoming shipments.

Any changes in the situation will be published on the company's website, Bulgarian Posts added.

On August 21, Bulgarian Posts said that there would be significant delays in the delivery of shipments to the US, adding that the Universal Postal Union was working on a solution that would allow postal operators to declare and pay customs duties directly to the country's authorities.

On the same day, a number of postal operators in Europe also announced expected disruptions in parcel deliveries to the US due to the entry into force of Washington's new customs regulations.

The following day, German postal company Deutsche Post said that it would significantly restrict parcel deliveries from Germany to the US in response to Washington's tightening customs regulations, AFP reported.
