The Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of Sofia University has launched a joint doctoral school with the University of Aizu in Japan, the press centre of Sofia University said on Tuesday.
The goal is to unite young researchers who wish to exchange ideas and discuss current topics in the field of mathematical modelling, AI and data analysis, which are key areas for solving complex scientific and technological problems.
The doctoral school was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, Prof. Maya Stoyanova. She welcomed the participants and partners from the University of Aizu, noting the rich traditions of Bulgaria and Japan in culture and science.
In his welcoming address, Sofia University Rector Prof. Georgi Valchev addressed the young scientists, emphasizing that the school will give them the opportunity to get acquainted with the latest developments in the field of AI, data analysis and processing, as well as the application of mathematical models.
Prof. Konstantin Markov, Head of the Research Cluster for Design of Automatic Systems with AI at the University of Aizu, delivered a welcome address on behalf of the Japanese side.
