Two of the members of the Council for Electronic Media (CEM), Prolet Velkova and Simona Veleva, called for the resignation of CEM Chair Sonia Momchilova. The reason for this is Momchilova's interview, in which she describes the atrocities in Bucha as propaganda. The proposal was made within the framework of Wednesday's CEM meeting, which was broadcast live on the zoom platform.

Velkova said that these positions scandalized three countries, and have created a conflict for  three countries: Ukraine, USA and Bulgaria, through its Foreign Ministry. She recalled that the embassies of Ukraine and the USA, human rights defenders, freely organized journalists, as well as the Association of European Journalists, reacted against this speech of the CEM Chair.

Veleva described Momchilova's statement as problematic, as the interview does not contain poitions adopted by the Council, but other types of messages which the Council does not recognize. This has lead to an unpleasant and embarrassing situation where the Council has to dissociate itself from its Chair or impeach its Chair, she added.

Momchilova stated: "I hope you watched the interview in question. Despite your well-intentioned admonitions not to give an interview at this place in this format, I have remained true to my principle of not refusing interviews, because that is what I promised even before I took office at CEM. Because I believe that we owe full transparency, clarity and a report on everything that happens in the regulator, that's why it works this way. This is the most transparent way, the most efficient and poor regulator".
