In a post published on GERB-UDF's Facebook page on Saturday, the coalition called on the caretaker Prime Minister, Andrey Gurov, to immediately take action to inform the parties represented in parliament of the Security Council's decisions and the reasons for them. The Council convened without representatives of the National Assembly earlier Saturday to discuss the military conflict in the Middle East.

The GERB-UDF parliamentary group expressed concern that even on issues such as national security, the caretaker government is demonstrating anti-system behaviour. GERB-UDF's statement further reads: "Bulgaria is a parliamentary republic. In times of crisis, institutions do not shrink—they expand. The Security Council may have permanent members, but political responsibility for the national security lies with the National Assembly. With people directly elected by the citizens."

GERB-UDF stated that in times of crisis, Bulgaria needs institutional unity, not institutional isolation. Temporary governments should not make permanent decisions behind closed doors.

The coalition urged President Iliana Iotova to take responsibility for the Council of Ministers that she appointed and to prevent it from pushing Parliament aside when it comes to decisions on national security.

The permanent members of the Security Council, which do not include political party representatives, were invited to participate in Saturday's Security Council meeting. In the current situation, the Council of Ministers does not want the Security Council to be turned into an arena for pre-election appearances, the governmental press service said earlier Saturday.

There is no direct military threat to Bulgaria based on intelligence from the security services and the Ministry of Defence, Gurov said the Security Council meeting ended.
