The There Is Such a People (TISP) party called on President Iliana Iotova to convene a Consultative Council on National Security to outline adequate measures to protect the country's borders from a possible mass migration wave. In a statement sent to the media on Saturday, TISP said that the war in Iran, which is apparently about to start in the very near future, will have a particularly strong impact on Bulgaria.
According to TISP, the war will lead to enormous migratory pressure from fleeing populations. In this situation, pressure will inevitably be exerted on Europe's external borders, and Bulgaria is the EU's external border closest to the conflict, the statement read.
It concluded: "Against this backdrop, claims from those in power that this conflict in no way threatens Bulgaria, and the vulgar convening of the Security Council without inviting the parties represented in Parliament, is not only an act of complete arbitrariness on the part of the Petrohan cabinet, but also a true, total irresponsibility towards the fate of the homeland."
Earlier Saturday, representatives of the caretaker government stated that Bulgaria is not a direct target for Iran and that there is no immediate military threat to the country.
