The government has tasked the State Consolidation Company to contract VMZ ammunition manufacturer for the renovation of wartime stocks of ammunition. This transpired from a decision of the Council of Ministers published in a legal information system.
The ammunition specified in the contract, worth BGN 346, 852, 401,60 including VAT, shall be transferred to the ownership of VMZ in implementation of the concluded contract for exchange. The company must implement the contract within a period of 36 months.
Earlier this month, the Council of Ministers adopted an ordinance on the conditions and procedure for the establishment of the Ministry of Defence's departmental wartime stocks.
In mid-March, caretaker Defence Minister Dimitar Stoyanov took part in a meeting with European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton and Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Irina Shchonova, who visited the production facilities of VMZ in Iganovo and Sopot. The meeting discussed increasing the capacity of the defence industry to produce more ammunition, which is needed to replenish stocks, Stoyanov said. He said the stocks of specific ammunition of the European Union and NATO member states are running low and for this it is necessary to produce more ammunition.
