site.btaSandanski Municipality Declares Partial Emergency in Several Villages amid Locust Infestation

A partial state of emergency was declared in the villages of Ploski, Ladarevo, and Dzhigurovo in Sandanski Municipality due to a major locust infestation, the Municipality said on Wednesday. In total, about 260 ha have been impacted.

Officials expect spraying operations in the hard-to-reach to be completed within one or two days, weather permitting.

Treatment of affected areas began in Tuesday in Ploski, where about 80 ha were initially infested. Additional hotspots were later found, bringing the treated area to around 140 ha. Work will continue in Ladarevo and Dzhigurovo, where another 120 ha are affected.
