Greece has issued an official diplomatic note to Ukraine regarding a maritime drone loaded with explosives that was discovered this month on a rocky shoreline in the west of Greece, the online edition of the newspaper Kathimerini reported on Wednesday, citing information from Greek Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lana Zohiou.
The newspaper recalled that a week ago Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis informed the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, of the Greek military's findings regarding the drone. He also discussed the matter with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha during an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Limassol, Cyprus, last Thursday.
The drone was discovered on May 7 by fishermen on the Ionian island of Lefkada and was subsequently handed over to the military.
It is believed to be linked to a series of maritime drone attacks that, according to available information, Ukraine has carried out in recent months against vessels associated with Russian efforts to transport oil, Kathimerini wrote.
