President Iliana Iotova will decide whether to run for a new term after the snap parliamentary elections scheduled for April 19, she said in an interview for bTV aired on Friday morning.
Iotova said: "I make no secret of the fact that I have received proposals from various public figures, groups, and parties to participate in the next presidential elections. Whether I will, I will decide only if I see that I have done my job, if the assessment of my work is good, and if I see that I have the trust of the people."
When asked what it is like to be a woman serving as President, she said she had no time to ponder this question, since she had to launch consultations with the parliamentary parties from day one on the job. She said: "I cannot say that I feel uncomfortable. I have received the support of a great many women and the respect of my colleagues. No woman can succeed without the support of the male world." Iotova added that she would not be here today, were it not for the support that her husband offered.
