The Council of Ministers Tuesday approved the provision of financial support for the implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine 2023-2026. Bulgaria's financial contribution of EUR 16,304.40 will be provided from the national share of the credit balance to the Council of Europe's main budget for 2024, the Government Information Service reported.
The Action Plan includes measures aimed at supporting Ukraine's recovery by strengthening the rule of law, good democratic governance, and the protection of the fundamental rights of citizens, including persons belonging to national minorities.
Bulgaria's commitment to participate in the financing and implementation of the Action Plan stems from the political declaration adopted by the heads of state and government of the Council of Europe member states during the Reykjavik Summit of May 2023.
With this decision, Bulgaria confirms its consistent support for the Council of Europe's efforts to restore and strengthen democratic institutions in Ukraine, as well as to uphold the rule of law and protect human rights in Europe, the press release reads.
