There Is Such a People (TISP) Floor Leader Toshko Yordanov said here on Wednesday that making changes to the Election Code shortly before elections is extremely harmful, as parties tend to pull the rules in their favor. He spoke to journalists at the President's administration following consultations with President Rumen Radev.
Yordanov noted that TISP had submitted a bill to amend the Election Code as soon as the current Parliament was convened. The bill passed its first reading, went through committees and expert working groups, and was finalized. He called on other parties to support the law, which has been discussed in a normal working atmosphere.
Regarding scanning machines for potential early parliamentary elections, Yordanov said that such equipment could be rented by the state and that cost is not an issue. He also stressed that voter lists must be cleared of so-called “dead souls” to ensure fair elections.
Other TISP representatives present at the consultations included MPs Stanislav Balabanov, Dragomir Petrov, Pavela Mitova, and Aleksandar Valchev.
Mitova added that the working group on the Election Code had prepared a 250-page report on all proposals, with the last meeting held in early December. The group included MPs, experts from the Ministry of Electronic Governance, and representatives of NGOs. Meetings were held monthly, and a wide variety of proposals were submitted from different parliamentary groups. She also noted that scanning machines could be rented from more than six locations worldwide.
