site.btaPresident Radev to Meet Representatives of Vazrazhdane and MRF–New Beginning in Government-Forming Consultations

President Rumen Radev is continuing consultations with representatives of the parliamentary groups in the 51st National Assembly ahead of awarding a mandate to form a government. On Tuesday, he will meet representatives of the parliamentary groups of Vazrazhdane and Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) – New Beginning, the President’s Press Secretariat said.

At 10:00 a.m., the President is scheduled to discuss the current political situation with representatives of Vazrazhdane following the government’s resignation. The meeting with representatives of the MRF - New Beginning is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.

On Monday, the Head of State held talks with representatives of the two largest political forces in Parliament – GERB-UDF and Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria.

Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov announced several days ago that the government would resign. One day later, the National Assembly unanimously accepted the Prime Minister’s resignation. The move followed large-scale protests in Sofia and other cities across the country earlier this month.

Under the Constitution, after the consultations with the parliamentary groups, the President mandates the largest one to form a government. If the group fails to do so, he mandates the second largest one. If it also fails, the third exploratory mandate goes to a parliamentary group chosen by the President. Failure to form a regular government under the third mandate results in snap parliamentary elections.
