Four members of the crew of the tanker Kairos, which ran aground off the coast of Ahtopol three days ago, were evacuated on Monday morning. The operation was carried out by Bulgarian Navy personnel using a Panther helicopter, the Defence Ministry’s press centre told the Bulgarian News Agency.
In the late afternoon of December 7, three other crew members were evacuated from the vessel flying a foreign flag and transported to Varna. Food and water were delivered by air to those remaining on board, along with a diesel generator.
The shipowner has decided that three people will remain on the tanker, the Transport and Communications Ministry said on Sunday.
The Ministry’s press centre added that a meeting with the Ambassador of Turkiye to Bulgaria is scheduled for Monday to clarify the circumstances surrounding the situation with the tanker.
