site.btaPM: Bulgaria's Economic Growth in 2025 Is Twice as High as European Average
This year Bulgaria has achieved economic growth that is twice the European average, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said during Parliament’s Question Time on Friday. He said that in response to a question by Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria MP Bogdan Bogdanov when he intended to resign over what was described as poor economic policy and a poor draft budget that had led to protests.
Zhelyazkov recalled that the state budget was adopted in March this year and said that the country’s economy had grown at rates not seen in recent years. This year Bulgaria has recorded growth twice the European average, reaching around 3% and possibly ranking second in Europe in terms of growth, he said. For next year, according to the macroeconomic forecast, Gross Domestic Product will remain high and unemployment is steadily falling, he added. He said that under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, a record BGN 5 billion would be invested in the Bulgarian economy this year, most of which had already been allocated. The Prime Minister said the country should focus on building and developing, rather than making comparisons with other governments.
The revenue agencies recorded BGN 9 billion more in collections compared to 2024, and this represents a shift to greater transparency in business, Zhelyazkov continued. According to him, foreign direct investment would also be higher than in previous years.
