The leader of the opposition party MECh, Radostin Vassilev, believes that "the only way out is the resignation of the government". In a social media comment following a night of large-scale protests against the government's budget plans, he wrote: "Sofia is burning! Bulgaria is protesting! The police are reluctantly protecting the headquarters of [MRF-]New Beginning and GERB from the people’s justified anger. In the end, they failed to protect them."

He wrote that "the mobsters stole 30 years from Bulgarians," and that what is happening now is expected and not surprising. If there was any provocation, he said, it was "against the patience of the Bulgarian people."

According to Vassilev, the only way out is the resignation of the government, withdrawing from the eurozone process, immediate elections, and forming a majority against GERB and MRF–New Beginning. "You don’t bring down the mafia with smiles and kisses," he wrote.
