The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office announced on Thursday that seven people had been charged with participating an organized criminal group involved in human trafficking. The charges were pressed after a joint operation with the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDCOC).
According to the indictment, the group had been operating in Sofia since April 2024. Six of the individuals have been detained, two of whom have been charged with leading the group, while the others have been charged with participating in it.
Pre-trial proceedings were initiated on August 27, 2025, with operational activities coordinated by Europol within the Regional Operational Task Force, which was set up to investigate human trafficking networks.
The prosecution is expected to file a request with the court for the suspects to be detained pending trial.
