site.btaPM: There Is Currently Social Tension Because Triggers Have Accumulated over Recent Years
There is currently social tension because triggers have accumulated over recent years, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said during the GERB National Youth Academy in Razlog.
In his words, the government appeared more stable in its first months, when it was actually unstable. "When there is clear political and parliamentary support, they try to portray the Cabinet as unstable," he said.
Zhelyazkov said that the Cabinet is currently functioning effectively as a unified body, despite the complex party composition within it.
"We were indeed pressed for time in submitting a draft state budget," he noted, adding that GERB have demonstrated sensitivity to public reaction and sentiment.
He predicted that political attacks will persist and stressed the importance of discussions with social partners on the budget to build consensus and trust.
The Prime Minister said that talks on substantive socio-economic reforms - which have been postponed for many years, including the tax and social security model and the role of the State as a redistributor - will begin in 2026.
