The youth organization of Vazrazhdane is against expanding the paid parking zones and increasing the fees for parking in Sofia, Chair Aleksandar Aleksiev said at a press conference here on Monday.

“We believe that this decision is ill-considered and hasty. We are seriously skeptical about the plan to reinvest the revenues from the zones back into the boroughs and we are against the planned double increase in fees,” he emphasized, adding that they do not expect the expansion of the paid parking zones to limit the oversaturation with cars. “Even if some of the cars are moved, they will go to neighboring areas where there is no zone, and the problem will worsen there,” he pointed out.

Instead, Sofia Municipality should direct its efforts towards investments in infrastructure and towards real solutions to address the problem, the youth organization noted.

On November 13, the Sofia Municipal Council decided to expand the scope of paid parking zones on the territory of the capital from January 5, 2026, and to increase the prices of parking fees. The prices for hourly parking in the blue zone will be EUR 2 per hour and EUR 1 per hour in the green zone.
