Members and supporters of the Vazrazhdane party talked about Europe’s demographic challenges during a discussion held on Tuesday in Sofia under the title European Demography Roundtable: Dialogue on Europe’s Demographic Challenges and Opportunities. The forum was organized by the European party Europe of Sovereign Nations.
“The European Union does not offer solutions and, all too often, creates problems itself. Europe needs change,” MEP Stanislav Stoyanov said in a video address. Elected on the Vazrazhdane ticket, Stoyanov is the chair of the Europe of Sovereign Nations party and vice-chair of the parliamentary group of the same name in the European Parliament. “Our identity is built on Christianity, community, and the family. Today, our identity and civilization are under threat, but there is the way of sovereign nations, and Europe can once again be an inspiration to the world,” Stoyanov stated.
“We need committed, well-educated, and courageous citizens who are willing to sacrifice some of their personal time and dedicate themselves to preserving our European civilization, because it is under threat,” Alexander Sell, President of the Sovereignty Foundation, said. According to him, Europe is endangered by mass migration, while the European elite does not act in the interests of citizens but instead serves itself and profits from war. He added that in various European countries, including Bulgaria, “unelected elites are deciding our fate”.
The demographic situation is one of the country’s most important problems, Vazrazhdane party leader Kostadin Kostadinov said. “We have always been interested in solutions, both political and practical, because there would be no demographic problem if more children were being born and there were more stable families. However, we see that this is not happening in our country,” he said. When discussing policies, the conversation should not focus solely on money, as such problems are also addressed through the promotion of values, children and the family as core values. “If we succeed in doing this together with the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and turn it into a strategy, I believe we will begin to rise from the bottom,” Kostadinov stated.
