site.btaWe Are Satisfied with Our Role in Government at the State Level, but Not at the Party Level, BSP Leader Zafirov Tells President
“At the state level, we are satisfied with our participation in governance, but we are not at the narrow party level,” Bulgarian Socialist Party Chair and outgoing Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov said during the consultations with the head of State here on Wednesday, which the latter is holding with political forces before he starts handing the government-forming mandates.
According to Zafirov, the immaturity of the political system and party egoism led to the government losing its legitimacy. The protests had a targeted nature and were fundamentally driven by a desire for leadership and greater partisanship. “The government’s resignation is now a fact,” the BSP chair said, adding that he is aware that his party has suffered a certain degree of damage from its participation in the government.
The meetings at the President's office are part of the procedure for consultations with representatives of parliamentary groups in the 51st National Assembly following the government’s resignation.
Also present at the Presidency building were outgoing Minister of Environment and Water Manol Genov, Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Ivanov, MPs Dragomir Stoynev and Kiril Dobrev, and BSP Deputy Chair and outgoing member of the party’s Executive Bureau Kaloyan Pargov.
On Tuesday, the President discussed the political situation in the country with representatives of Vazrazhdane and of MRF – New Beginning. On Monday (15 December), consultations with President Rumen Radev began, during which he met with GERB-UDF and Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria.
A consultation is also scheduled with the There Is Such a People party later on Wednesday.
