site.btaPresident Radev Holds Consultations with Alliance for Rights and Freedoms
President Rumen Radev held government-forming consultations here on Thursday with representatives of the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms (ARF), following the resignation of the Cabinet, announced by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and unanimously accepted by Parliament last week.
During the consultations, ARF Floor Leader Hayri Sadakov stated that it is practically impossible to form a cabinet within the 51st Parliament. He called on the presidential institution to help guarantee the fairness of the next parliamentary elections. The MP stresses that machine voting and transparent reporting of results is extremely important for his party.
Radev stated that the legislature should aim to open up the Election Code, as this is their duty. According to the head of State, this can be achieved through the use of machines rather than paper ballots but not in the form of their use as printers, as is currently the case, but through electronic recording of the results and a control count of the receipts.
While the head of State criticized the 51st National Assembly for having stopped listening to the voice of the people, he praised the ARF for managing to keep a finger on the pulse of their voters.
After the meeting, Sadakov described the consultations as productive and focused on ensuring the integrity of elections. He concluded: "Let us have a public discussion to seek public support for ensuring the integrity of the vote."
