Parliamentary Education and Science Committee Approves 2026 Draft State Budget at First Reading

The parliamentary Education and Science Committee approved the 2026 draft state budget at first reading on Wednesday, with ten votes “in favour”, four “against” and three “abstained”. GERB-UDF, There Is Such a People, BSP - United Left and the Movement for Rights and Movements - New Beginning supported the bill, four Vazrazhdane and Velichie MPs voted against and three Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria MPs abstained. 

With the 2026 draft state budget, the total amount of planned expenditure for education is EUR 5.813 billion, which is 4.8% of gross domestic product (GDP), said Economy Minister Krasimir Valchev.

He presented the draft budget in its section on education and science.
