Turkish actor Cagatay Ulusoy has acquired a second citizenship - Bulgarian, Turkish media outlet Haberler reported on Saturday. He ranks in top 10 of the most liked and popular actors in the country.

A photo of Ulusoy receiving the Bulgarian citizenship document was circulated on social media, Haberler wrote.

Cagatay Ulusoy has returned to his roots, Halk TV announced, while the Hurriyet newspaper highlighted that Ulusoy now holds dual Turkish and Bulgarian citizenship.

The 35-year-old actor was born in Istanbul on September 28, 1990. He is the son of expatriates - his mother is Bosnian and his father is originally from the village of Beli Lom (Northeast Bulgaria).

The family emigrated to Turkiye in the 1970s. The father also has dual Turkish and Bulgarian citizenship. Under Bulgarian law, Istanbul-born Cagatay Ulusoy has the right to acquire citizenship by descent - when one parent is a Bulgarian citizen.

According to reports in the Turkish media, Ulusoy has not visited his father's native land.

Like other stars of Turkish soap operas, Ulusoy began her career as a model in 2010. At the age of 19, he won the "Best Model of Turkey" award. In 2015, he received Turkiye's highest film award, the Golden Butterfly, and the recognition of "best actor".
