The foreign ministers of Bulgaria and North Macedonia, Georg Georgiev and Timco Mucunski, spoke over the phone, Georgiev's Ministry reported on Wednesday. Georgiev briefed his counterpart from North Macedonia on the resolution on the progress of the Republic of North Macedonia in the process of accession to the European Union that Bulgaria's Parliament passed on May 30.
The Minister said that this act once again confirms Bulgaria's unwavering position of firm commitment to the European Consensus of July 2022 and makes an encouraging appeal to the government in Skopje to implement the agreements reached. The resolution reaffirms that our country has no conditions beyond the elements of the European Consensus, Georgiev emphasized and added that this is a clear signal of Bulgaria's constructive approach.
The same positions were also presented by Bulgaria's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elena Shekerletova during a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia in Sofia, Agneza Rusi-Popovska. Shekerletova pointed out that this act demonstrates the broad agreement that exists in Bulgaria regarding the European path of North Macedonia.
Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry reports that Bulgaria once again shows that it is consistent in its support for the Western Balkans and remains closely committed to the implementation of the agreements between the EU and Skopje.
In this context, Shekerletova expressed hope that the resolution's balanced tone and the clear guarantee that our country has no other conditions beyond the set of measures agreed in the European Consensus will be objectively recognized and communicated in the public space by the political leadership of the Republic of North Macedonia.
