Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged on Twitter on Friday Turkish voters to open the way to the "Century of Turkyie" by voting for him in the second round of the presidential elections on May 28.

"We believe that on May 28, we will continue our path towards a great and strong Turkiye," Erdogan said.

The President reiterated that he and his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) have fulfilled their promises to the citizens in all 81 provinces. "Let us together open the doors of a new era for Turkiye. Let us together build the "Century of Turkiye," Erdogan said.

In the second round of the presidential election, Erdogan will face Kemal Kilicdaroglu, leader of the main opposition Republican People's Party and the National Alliance's presidential candidate.

Erdogan fell less than one percent short of winning the first round of the presidential election.

Meanwhile, 74-year-old Kilicdaroglu described the second round as a "referendum" on Turkiye's direction, the Sabah newspaper reported.

Seeking to attract more voters, mainly nationalist-leaning ones, Kilicdaroglu hardened his stance by promising to repatriate millions of refugees if elected president, the newspaper noted.

Erdogan, 69, is Turkiye's longest-serving (initially as prime minister, since 2003, and as president since 2014). If re-elected, he will remain in power until 2028.
