Hadzhidimovo Municipality received the Culture Golden Coin for its contribution to the preservation of cultural heritage and its cultural activity at an award ceremony here on Wednesday.

Rositsa Zlatanova, Director of the Council of the European Scientific and Cultural Community, presented the award to Hadzhidimovo Mayor Lyudmil Terziev. She emphasized that the recognition is awarded after careful selection from among 265 municipalities in the country.

During the ceremony, other institutions and individuals with contributions to culture also received the Culture Golden Coin. Among them are the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina for active cultural cooperation with Bulgaria and the singer Smilyana Zaharieva for popularizing Bulgarian culture and for winning the Guinness record for the most powerful voice on the planet.

The Culture Golden Coin is made of 24-carat gold at the Bulgarian Mint, Zlatanova said during the ceremony, noting that its obverse depicts an open book as a symbol of knowledge and progress, and the reverse shows letters of the Glagolitic alphabet. The award has been presented for 15 years, with many cultural centres, European and Bulgarian institutions, cities and embassies having been awarded, including the Polish Cultural Centre and the Cervantes Spanish Cultural Institute, Zlatanova pointed out.
