site.btaAssaulted Prosecutor and His Family to Be Guarded by Justice Ministry's General Directorate Security

Justice Minister Georgi Georgiev has ordered officers from the Justice Ministry’s General Directorate Security to provide protection for the family of prosecutor Ivo Iliev, the ministry announced on Tuesday. A security post has also been set up at the medical facility where Prosecutor Iliev is being treated.

The Sofia Directorate of Interior is working on investigating the assault and identifying the perpetrator, the statement added.

An order has been issued for the protection of another magistrate who worked with Iliev. The request was submitted earlier in the day to the Justice Minister and the Sofia City Prosecutor.

Iliev, former deputy city prosecutor of Sofia, was guarded by the General Directorate Security in 2024 in connection with threats he had received, but his security was withdrawn at his request.

On Monday, the prosecutor was attacked with a hammer in front of his home. The Association of Prosecutors in Bulgaria described the attack as unacceptable and brutal assault against the state.
