Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov will attend Friday's ceremony for the opening of a new surveillance zone on the border with Turkiye, near the village of Kraynovo, the Government’s press service reported.
Also present will be Interior Minister Daniel Mitov and the head of Border Police, Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov.
The new surveillance zone is part of a project Bulgaria is implementing to expand the scope of the integrated border surveillance system. The goal is to provide reliable video monitoring and strengthen the country’s capacity to counter illegal migration, in line with Bulgaria’s commitments to protect the European Union’s external border.
In July, the Interior Ministers of Bulgaria and Austria – Daniel Mitov and Gerhard Karner – opened a surveillance zone along the Bulgarian-Turkish border. It is part of a large-scale project worth BGN 170 million, with funding provided by the European Commission (EC). The first 2.5 km were built near the village of Golyam Dervent.
