The collection of the Hristo Botev Library in Chisinau has expanded with over 100 new books in Bulgarian for children. The donation was made by the Sava Dobroplodni Regional Library in Sliven (Southeastern Bulgaria) during the 27th International Children's Book Forum in May.
The donation is part of the cooperation between the two libraries, which includes the exchange of information on activities and new publications, as well as support through the provision of fiction for children and young people. "Literature for school-aged children is what our library needs the most," said Hristo Botev Library Director Angela Olarescu.
According to her, the library's readership includes children and parents of Bulgarian origin as well as students from the Bulgarian Sunday School. "The staff of the Sliven Library responded with joy to our request and sent us extremely valuable titles," Olarescu added.
Among the books received were fairy tales, legends, short stories, novels and stories by contemporary Bulgarian authors. All of them were nominated in the festival competitions for Best Writer, Best Illustrator, and Best Publisher, while the award for Best Book by Content was given by the children themselves.
"We were especially happy to learn that the donated books were published in 2024 - they represent the best of contemporary Bulgarian children's literature," the Director said. She stressed that from the new school year, the library readers will have the opportunity to get acquainted with these titles.
Olarescu added that the participation in the forum in Sliven has opened new professional horizons for the Hristo Botev Library and has given a strong impetus to expand the partnership with Bulgarian libraries.
